Announcing the first edition of Books + Flow, an embodied queer book club:
Saturday, February 25th
3:30-5:30pm
This collaboration, facilitated by Russell Lepley and Charlie Pugsley, combines queer literature with movement exploration to create an unconventional book club for all. We’ll read a book together and meet at F+F for an event structured in three parts:
40 minutes of guided movement exploring themes from the book to a playlist inspired by the text
10 minute break for tea & refreshments
70 minutes of group conversation dissecting, sharing, and connecting with the book.
No dance experience is required and the movement portion will be accessible for all abilities and structured to provide agency to opt in or out of participation.
The first book we will be reading is “Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl” by Andrea Lawlor. Described in the New Yorker as “Smut” the book is “a riotous, razor-sharp bildungsroman whose hero/one wends his way through a world gutted by loss, pulsing with music, and into an array of intimacy and connections.”
To participate payment is required upon registration. The cost is $30 (not including the book) or pay-what-you-can. To set up a pay-what-you-can rate email us at info@flux-flow.com
Participants are encouraged to purchase the book from Bookspace but it is not a requirement. Please engage in this book club in whatever way makes it accessible for you.
We are very excited to read and move with you all!!
