In this workshop, performers will create individual gestural phrases which will be explored in various improv structures. Using themes found in the work of Pina Bausch, the performers will discover new ways of looking at and experiencing relational interactions. The workshop is open to performers of all ages and skill levels.
Workshop leader John Giffin was a member of Bausch’s company in Wuppertal, Germany and danced in the original cast of several of her seminal pieces. He has received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio and Greater Columbus Arts Councils, OhioDance and DanceTeacher Magazine. His commissions include full-evening dance theater pieces for the Werner Center for the Arts, Contemporary American Theatre Company and The Ohio State University Department of Theatre.
