Get out your head and into your body.
The "Flow" workshop series highlights improvisational dance practices including Gaga, Butoh, Contemplative Dance, and more which encourage us to find ourselves in our own bodies while sharing space in community.
This month: CONTEMPLATIVE DANCE PRACTICE
Contemplative Dance (CDP) is a practice that intertwines movement and meditation while exploring embodied awareness and expression. It was created in the 1970's by Naropa University's Barbara Dilley and is now practiced internationally. It is is open and welcome to all bodies and abilities and to all those seeking a space for expression and reflection. The practice happens in a circle and the time is divided into 3 parts- The first part calls for meditation and mindfulness- we tune into our body mentally, emotionally and if you would like- spiritually, the second continues the work of tuning into our body while inviting in physicality and breath as a solo practice and last part opens into free movement with yourself or others in the safety of the community we build together in our circle.
