This is an exploration of the most iconic partner dance that uses sequences which emphasize core connection, elasticity, and intention. This dance constantly engages the balance between partners where no one person has ascendancy. We will explore weight changes and body shifts while maintaining your own balance along with a partner. We will touch elements such as being grounded and fulfilling full movement between a count has a basis in other dance forms. You will be doing everything in tandem while being sensitive to a partners’ balance, size, weight and capacity. This dance gives pause to think that at every moment you are viably connected to another person while moving within a choreography. This is a new way to reinterpret dancing skills, and for both novice and advanced dancers can share the ability for learning and dancing as partners.
Please wear either jazz shoes, jazz sneakers or anything that allows ease in pivoting.

Eric Mehl has been a Columbus, Ohio resident since 1955. He graduated with a degree in Ceramics and has a master's in education. Eric started dancing at age 52. After trying different partner dances, he participated in a Tango workshop and found an instant connection with it both physically and mentally. He has continually danced it since then and finds it to be a livelong learning process.
